SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE ANIMATION

Hey all, remember about a year ago when I posted something touting the awesomeness of the Scott Pilgrim comic book series? ...No? Well I did.

Turns out that as luck would have it I got to work on an animated featurette to help promote the recent movie adaptation that came out. Now if there has even been something I would classify as a "Dream Project" this would have to have been it. Anyone who knows me in person knows the depth of my obsession with the comic book series.

With that in mind, go ahead and watch knowing that the first 15-20 seconds, the last 10 and a few juicy bits in-between are all animated by yours truly!

Down to Business

So one of the main reasons there has been so very few updates recently is due to the fact that I have a distinct lack of internet at my new Apartment. Oh, did I mention I got a new apartment? I'm living in East Hollywood just a Stone's throw from Titmouse, Being able to bike to work is quite the treat.

What Have I been doing at said studio you ask? After graduating school Titmouse put me to work animating on season 3 of Metalocalypse, which wrapped up a month or two ago, so be on the look out for that one in the near future... I think it is airing at the same time as the new episodes of the Venture Bros... Also, keep an eye open for yours' truely in the season finally... I may or may not have managed to sneak myself into the episode somewhere...

As for the present I have some unexpected time off and will do my best to use it to get some new art done to post here... Such as this!

ABOVE: Alyx & Myself being awesome. (as always)

LAZER CAKES

this is a still of a space shuttle readout screen, made for an upcoming Sci-Fi epic 70's throwback by Steve Harris entitled "Space Cream".

The space shuttle seen here is just for reference, the actual shuttle will be a toy ship on a string...

If you want a better idea of what his movie is going to be like, you are in luck... Here's a trailer!

CAN YOU SWIG IT?

This is a little something I made for the Titmouse White Elephant back in December, it's a label for the first ever bottle of "Titmouse Tequila." Featured on the front is the Boss man himself Chris Prynoski with a modification of his catch-phrase "I can dig it."

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the finished product, bottle and all to show. I only got done making it about an hour before I had to wrap it up for the party. Click the picture to see it full sized if you want to read some of the smaller text.

FUN FACT: Ever gotten an authentic bottle of Tequila with an agave worm floating in the bottom? Then you've been duped; Tequila worms were a marketing gimmick created in the 1940's.

FOR NON-ANIMATORS...

There is nothing more impressive looking than a screen shot from a 3D modeling program...

Cool looking right? I could have drawn that in 30 seconds but instead I've been sitting here for over an hour figuring it out! Everybody has to start somewhere though right?? RIGHT???

FUN FACT: During medical procedures redheads require 20% more sedation than there non-fiery counterparts. On top of that, no one really knows why...

STORYBOARDS!

Here are some storyboards for my 4th year thesis film: "GEORGE WASHINGTON VS THE SKY SHARK(S)" they are hastily draw thumbnails, but who knows, maybe you'll find them interesting.

Hopefully you all won't have to wait too long for this one, thesis projects for graduating students (like me) are due in mid April of next year if you want a diploma... a pretty tight production schedual for a 3 minute film... Keep on the lookout for updates!

WELCOME TO THE 3RD DIMENSION...

I just got done taking my first 3D animation class and we came out of it with a "Rubin Vase" which is to say, a vase where you can see the image of a person in the negative space. Notice anything familiar in that handsome profile? You guessed it, its me.

FUN FACT: It might be safer not to wear a bike helmet, drivers unconsciously drive on average 3 inches further away from bike riders without helmets because they perceive them to be more reckless and unpredictable.

ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN...

Time for another school year at CalArts has begun and thus it is time to start work on my final year "Thesis Film."

The working title for this one is "GEORGE WASHINGTON VS THE SKY SHARKS." and yes, it is all capital letters...

I've got a good set of classes this semester including but not limited to: 3D Maya intro class, Screen Printing (Hopefully), Color & Design 101, and After Effects... so with any luck I should have lots of interesting stuff to post here.

In other news, I have been musing over the possibility of getting another internship since the last one went so well... This time the studio I'm interested in would in NEW YORK CITY. I've got the application all ready to send out, just need the stamps.

I really have no idea how something like that would work out, it being my last year and all... but ya know, I'm resourceful and junk so whatever.

BLACK PANTHER PREVIEW

Here is a preview of the upcoming animated BET show "The Black Panther."

During my time at Titmouse I've been lucky enough to get to work on this show doing actual animation, I'M A REAL ANIMATOR AT LAST!

FUN FACT: In a time when pale skin was in, famous fashion designer Coco Chanel fell asleep on the deck of a cruse ship and awoke with a golden tan. Being such a trend setter, the rest of the world followed suit and a sun soaked look has been desirable ever since.
